The Digital Composition Committee is excited to announce that Dr. Cheryl Ball is coming to CU on April 6 and 7.
I met Cheryl at the DMAC 2011 and was very impressed by her enthusiasm, expertise, and easygoing manner, and I think my PWR colleagues will really enjoy working with her. I hope to see many of you at each workshop!
MULTIMODAL COMPOSITION: INTRO & WORKSHOP
Friday 4/6 from 9-3
Location: UMC Art Gallery
Workshop open to all interested faculty
Dr. Cheryl Ball will guide us through an exploration of the pedagogy and practice of multimodal composition, focusing in particular on the opportunities it provides for teaching students a range of rhetorical strategies and new media literacies.
Cheryl briefly review the role of multimodal composition in writing instruction, respond to common concerns, and lead us in some fun hands-on activities that will help us experience the power and relative ease of composing in multiple modalities.
If you’d like to attend and enjoy a free lunch, please fill out this RSVP form on PWRFaculty.org by April 2. If you sign up after April 2, you’ll need to bring your own lunch. You may sign up as late as 6pm on April 5.
Bring your own laptop for the hands-on portion! (Or arrange with me to borrow one)
DIGITAL LITERACY IN THE WRITING CURRICULUM
Saturday 4/7 from 10-3
Location: UMC Art Gallery
Workshop for rostered PWR faculty
On the second day of her visit, Cheryl will work with interested faculty to help us think strategically about how to implement multimodal composition, and digital literacy more broadly into our curriculum, in a way that satisfies the various criteria our courses must meet, including CCHE, WPA, and NCTE/CCC.
This session might be of particular interest to the coordinators as well as to members of relevant committees, but all PWR faculty and affiliates are welcome to attend.
If you’re interested in attending, please RSVP by contacting Amy no later than 6pm on April 5. Please also contact Amy with questions about these events.
